Tri-County Dental Laboratory
Tri-County Dental Laboratory was established in 1948 as a full service dental lab servicing Merced, Mariposa and Madera county dental offices in the central valley of California. In 1980, after 14 years in the dental laboratory business, Rian Hatcher purchased ownership of Tri-County. Since that time the laboratory has evolved into a high-end fixed prosthetic dental lab, specializing in metal-free restorations.Quality, consistency and customer service are the backbone of the labs business. We seek to not be just another component in the treatment process but to be a resource and asset to all our dentist partners. Our service now extends well beyond the original three counties to all over the country, from California to the Carolinas.
Matt Hatcher began his dental technologist career in his father’s dental laboratory during his high school years, coming in to learn the basics of the trade and acquire a skill. What started out as part-time work to earn a few spending dollars has turned into a passion.
After working in the laboratory for a year or so, he began to take continuing education courses from highly recognized technologists and this opened up his eyes to a whole new world of possibilities. Driven by a desire to deliver the best restorations he can, Matt continues to regularly attend courses and develop relationships with some of the worlds top dental technologists such as Olivier Tric and Oliver Brix.
Beautiful restorations are great but if they are not built on a solid foundation they are doomed to failure. Which is why Matt has not only taken courses from technologists but has also made a priority to understand the dentists perspective. Attending seminars from Frank Spear, Pascal Magne, and other notable clinicians has helped to give him a full-orbed view of the entire restorative process.
Matt is married to his high school sweetheart, Iris, and they have three children.
Like many laboratory technologists, Rian Hatcher’s journey to dentistry began with a love of art. As a young student he had a desire to become an art teacher. After a successful year at Fresno state, both academically and athletically as a swimmer, circumstances led him to the military. While selecting dental lab technician as his field of choice, he was nonetheless trained as an air traffic controller. Four years later Rian left the military and began his dental lab career. He started in a lab in Fresno, Ca where his twin brother was working. While there he took an apprenticeship course through the dental association and 15 months later he had his own business doing removeables. Rian continued in that area of dental technology for eight years and then transitioned to fabricating fixed restorations. During that time he achieved his CDT credential and has maintained accreditation for over 35 years.
Throughout his career Rian has had many opportunities to learn, both through his own experiences and through those of others. One of the most impactful lessons was at a Frank Spear course – he said that we teach people how to treat us. This simple statement has made a great difference in how he does business and lives his life. Dental technology has given Rian the ability to serve others as well as express his artistic side which is why he says he really loves his craft.
Rian has been married for over 45 years to his wife, Louise and they have two children.
